Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan Part 2 is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated Tamil movies of recent times. As a sequel to the first part, this film continues the epic saga based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical novel. Image source: IMDB
One of three of Mani Ratnam’s classic, epic movies of the 1980s, and 1990s is the 1986 Mouna Ragam which means the Silent Symphony and stars Mohan, Revathi, Karthik & the very funny V. K. Ramasamy. It is a love story that has 2 parts –one is a current that tells of a forced marriage and another is a flashback tragic love story. Image source: Amazon.
One of the biggest challenges in making a movie that is based on epic bestselling novels like JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings and now Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan is in bringing the movie’s storyline as close to the actual event or the novel and yet taking care to make it as excited as possible despite the storyline is predictable.
