Probably the best and most satisfying scene from the movie where despite Maharaja’s attempt to hide the actual events from the police so that he can kill Nallasivam later, Inspector S. Varadharajan out of the blue reveals that the police already knew the tragic event before they came to his house and knew who the criminals were but decided to play along so that Nallasivam will not be alerted & escape. Plot Twist 1

A truck, its driver losing control, careens off the road and smashes into a dwelling, tragically resulting in the death of Maharaja’s wife and daughter. This shocking event sets the tone for the movie’s exploration of fate and consequence. Initially, one might assume the residence belongs to Maharaja, given the personal loss he suffers. However, it is revealed that the actual owner is Selvam’s wife. She had abandoned her previous home, overwhelmed by shame when her husband was detained by law enforcement. 

Plot Twist 2

The curious case of the dustbin named “Lakshmi” unfolds with a twist of fate and a dash of mystery. Selvam who likes to collect interesting containers had likely stolen the dustbin from its original location. The stolen item found a temporary home within the confines of Selvam’s old residence. However when a truck crashed into the house, “Lakshmi” tumbled onto Jothi shielding her from what could have been a catastrophic impact, turning the humble dustbin into an unlikely savior in the nick of time. Maharaja takes both Lakshmi and Jothi into his care. 

Plot Twist 3

The Maharaja told the police that someone had taken his dustbin named “Lakshmi.” However, the truth was that he still had it. He kept the dustbin close, even putting it under his daughter’s hospital bed for good luck when she had to go to the emergency room. The Maharaja said it was stolen because he wanted to stay near the police station and search for the people responsible for hurting his daughter. He thought that by saying the dustbin was missing, he would have a reason to be there and keep an eye out for those individuals.

Plot Twist 4

The police were aware that Nallasivam was the person responsible for the crime and also the individual Maharaja had been trying to find at the police station. Before taking him to Maharaja’s house, they knew he was the one who had committed the act that Maharaja was investigating. They brought him to the scene of the crime to go through the actions of the crime again, which is a common practice in investigations to understand what happened. This step is important to make sure the details of the crime are clear and to gather more evidence.

Plot Twist 5

Inspector S. Varadharajan made a decision to let Maharaja take the life of Nallasivam rather than capture him. This choice was significant because typically, an inspector would arrest someone who has done something wrong. However, in this situation, the inspector did not follow the usual procedure. Instead, he permitted Maharaja to end Nallasivam’s life, which is a serious and unusual action for a police officer to take. This raises questions about why the inspector made this decision and what the circumstances were that led to such a drastic measure.

Selvam had a moment of clarity when he saw the pendant he had given to Jothi, his daughter, a long time ago. These two important details made it clear to Selvam that Jothi was not the daughter of Maharaja, but his own. This precarious balance shatters when Selvam is publicly arrested, a humiliation he attributes to the elusive Maharaja, whom he mistakenly believes to be the architect of his downfall. This error in judgment costs him dearly, resulting in a harrowing 13-year incarceration. The tragedy compounds during his absence, as he is dealt a devastating blow with the untimely death of his wife, a casualty of a cruel twist of fate. 

Anurag Kashyap, born on September 10, 1972, is a distinguished Indian film director, producer, and actor, renowned for his significant contributions to Hindi cinema. His acclaimed works include writing for the groundbreaking film ‘Satya’ and directing the controversial ‘Black Friday’, the latter based on the 1993 Bombay bombings. Singampuli

Born in Periyakulam, Tamil Nadu, Singampuli’s journey in cinema began after completing his engineering studies in Bangalore. Sachana Namidass

The character Jothi, Maharaja’s daughter is depicted as a young woman with exceptional athletic prowess, overshadowing her academic struggles. This unexpected arrival inadvertently redirects Selvam’s vengeful plans, initially intended for Maharaja, towards her. Born on May 1, 2003, in Chennai, she made her mark with roles in films like “August 16, 1947” (2023) and “Maharaja” (2024). Her portrayal of complex characters has quickly garnered attention, showcasing her versatility and dedication to the craft. With a background in commerce from SSS Jain Women’s College, Sachana continues to evolve as an actress, promising a bright future in the entertainment industry.

Shortcomings
