The Tamil music arena in the 1980s is basically ruled by Maestro Illaiyaraaja and to some extent, Maestro MS Viswanathan. Between them, they came out some of the most memorable Tamil hits that are very much appreciated to this day.
Then we have T. Rajendar who is well known for dramatic family-themed movies in the 1980s and is well known for interesting dialogues. For the newbies, he is also the father of the well-known actor T. Silambarasan aka Simbu.
What was not know is that T. Rajendar has also composed this superb song.
I first heard this song in a pub where we had Ananthan and his brother Ram handling the music and someone requested for this. The timing was perfect with everyone enjoying their beer and to add the icing on the cake is this song. I had always thought it was composed by Illayaraaja.
One of the best parts of this song is the opening with the electric guitar and the drum before the late SP Bala starts off the song with a laugh. Just with these 3 main components, Vaasam Illaa Malar Idhu has become a very classic and memorable hit from T.Rajender. The lyric of this song is very meaningful too.
