I am not sure why but it seems like most of my favourite Hindi songs in my playlist has Sonakshi Sinha as the lead actress (a mere coincidence?). This is from the 2012 Hindi movie, Son of Sardaar starring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha. Image source: BHM Pics.
By the way, Son of Sardaar is a Hindi remake of the Telugu comedy movie Maryada Ramanna which was written and directed by the great SS.Rajamouli who also behind the blockbuster Bahubali 1& Bahubali 2.
Between the remake and the original, I will vote for the original anytime – it is funnier, the killer family looks menacing and the comedies are original. It is the same case with 3 Idiots and Nanban.
Background Scene
The background scene is this – Jassi (Ajay Devgn) now found himself trapped in the house of the family who wants to kill him the moment he steps out from the house.
Unfortunately, he had also fallen in love with Sukh (Sonakshi Sinha), the daughter of the head of the house who wants to kill him and also who has been arranged to marry another man.
This song comes when the marriage has fixed and they all are leaving the house to go to the temple for the wedding ceremony.
Jassi is forced to leave the house too and this could mean the end of his life.
Music Video
The Hindi song was composed by Himesh Reshammiya and the song was sung passionately by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who is the nephew of the famous Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. And the very meaningful lyrics was beautifully penned by Sameer Anjaan
Here’s another video which is on the making on the song and the scene which is in Hindi but interesting as well:-
The Lyrics
Before I come to the part why I like this Hindi song, let go through the lyrics which is very meaningful and is a must understand when enjoying the song. I am pretty sure it is even more meaningful in Hindi:-
The Voice Over
Bichad ke tujhse ab mujhe marna hai
After being separated from You, I want to die
Yeh Tajurba isi Zindagi me karna hai
I will have this experience in this same life
Tananana tana nana
Tananana dina dina dane dane dani
Tananana dina dina
(Indian Classical Notes)
Song Part
Tu bichdann.. Bichdann kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Tu bichdann.. Kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Bichde toh jee na payenge (x4)
After separtion, I will not be able to live
Door jane se bhi na chain payenge
After going away also there will be no Peace
Jitna bhulayenge yaad aayenge
The more You would want to forget, the more You will remember
Tu bichdann.. Bichdann kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Tu bichdann.. Kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Bichde toh jee na payenge (x2)
After separtion, I will not be able to live
Saregapa saregapa
(Indian Classical Notes)
Har dua mein tu hi shaamil
In every one of my prayer You are there
Chahe tanha meri mehfil
Even if I am empty and lonely
Rang jo gam hai aalam nam hai
There is no colour but sadness, my eyes are wet
Hoon main zinda yeh kya kam hain
I am still alive, is it not enough
Soniye..
My love
Tu bichdann.. Bichdann kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Tu bichdann.. Kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Bichde toh jee na payenge (x4)
After separtion, I will not be able to live
The Voice Over
Khuda kare zindagi mein yeh maqam aye
I wish that there comes a point in my life
Tujhe bhoolne ki dua karoon
Where I pray to forget You
Par dua me tera naam aaye
In that prayer, there is Your name
Song Part
Hongi aankhen band yaa khuli
Whether my eyes be open or closed
Na chupegi yeh deewangi
It can’t hide my madness for Love
Tera chehra.. Dikh jayega
Your Face will be seen
Jata lamha rook jayega
The passing moment shall stop
Soniye..
My love
Tu bichdann.. Bichdann kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Tu bichdann.. Kehndi hai
You say that we should get separated
Bichde toh jee na payenge
After separtion, I will not be able to live

Breakdown of the Song
A review at Koi Moi of the Hindi song states:-
The next track, Bichdann, kicks off in the hearty vocals of Ajay Devgan and is further painted in the beautiful voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
Singer’s magic can be felt with each of his words that are as beautiful as the deep blue ocean with the Sameer’s lyrics further bringing good depth.
The beat of ‘tabla’ in the background enhances the beauty of the track.

I love the way song starts with a bass guitar, Ajay Devgn’s voice sounding rather poetic and a string of tablas before it moves to the next part where we hear the beautiful Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice with the tablas ending each of the lines.
The overall mood is sad and heavy and yet the overall music pace fast – it as if you are walking in slow motion when the rest of the world is moving fast. Ajay Devgn’s voice comes over again for the second part of the song. Obviously both of them are in love but unable to voice out their true feelings.
