One of the biggest challenges in making a movie that is based on epic bestselling novels like JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings and now Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan is in bringing the movie’s storyline as close to the actual event or the novel and yet taking care to make it as excited as possible despite the storyline is predictable. When it comes to military assets and tactics-themed movies, you will hardly remember movies like Top Gun as there is nothing much of tactics there except for Tom Cruise and the beautiful shots of F-14 Tomcats facing the Russian MiGs (which are actually Northrop F-5Es in camouflage). Kamal Haasan has always had a special and a key role for the legendary Nagesh in his movies (the other usual collaborator with Kamal is actor Delhi Ganesh) and Nagesh who had always played a comical role has proved to be a very versatile actor with different roles with Kamal Haasan. Before Sarvam Thaala Mayam, my impression of GV Prakash is that he is a really good music director who has composed some of the best hits in the Tamil movie industry. I had never rated him as a good actor perhaps due to the types of roles that he has done in the past.
My personal favourite is his composition for the 2010 Tamil movie, Aayirathil Oruvan titled “Maalai Neram” sung by Andrea Jeremiah. He also did a great job in music scoring for other blockbusters like Madrasapattinam, Deiva Thirumagal and Raja Rani. Image source: Wikipedia.
