The song “Enna Solla Pogirai” (meaning – “what you are going to say”) been humming in my mind for the last few days. It is one of my favourites among Shankar Mahadevan’s songs and when I watched Shankar Mahadevan singing it in a concert over Astro Vannavil; it was a great feeling to hear it again. The song “Enna Solla Pogirai” from the Tamil movie “Kandukondain Kandukondain” has to be one of the best songs composed by the great AR Rahman and is well delivered by Shankar Mahadevan. Not surprising, the song “Enna Solla Pogirai” earned Shankar Mahadevan the best male playback singer award in 2001.
The settings for the song are perfect – the rhythm, the lyrics, the singer, the background (among the ruins at the Pyramid in Egypt) and the actors.
In the movie, Ajith is in love with Tabu but Tabu although likes Ajith, is not ready for a long term relationship – due to her family situation and Ajith’s commitment of being a film director clashes at times. Ajith, however, tries to win her over and in one the scene whilst waiting at a railway crossing, Ajith sings the song. The song scene is well blended with what is happening between Ajith and Tabu – Ajith sings to Tabu and when just Tabu is ready to follow Ajith, her family comes in and “disrupts” the affair – twice!
The video takes some time to download (hell if you are on dial-up) so let it download completely before you play it. Tabu just looks fabulous in the desert (and in great shape too) and the way she sees Ajith in silence is shown in good effect.
In case, you are wondering how the man looks like and how he performs, watch Shankar Mahadevan performing the song live in concert in the USA on Youtube.
