Favourite Hindi Song 101: Aao Na by Shankar Ehsaan Loy 2004

hindi

I am seriously hooked up with Aao Na from the Hindi movie Kyun! Ho Gaya Na (2004) – I heard the movie bombed in the box office but the soundtrack is classic especially for me, this one particular song. In fact it is running on a non-stop loop on my Hindi playlist even as I am drafting this post. Image source: www.bollywoodhungama.com

When it comes to ballad based Hindi songs, you can never go wrong with Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy (musical trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa). So I was not surprised when I first heard this song and checking further it was composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy.

I had always loved their compositions in the early 2000s Hindi movies like Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Lakshya (2004), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Don (2006), Salaam-e-Ishq (2007) and Chandni Chowk to China(2009) and they remained strong till now. Even Kamal’s Vishwaroopam (2013) was composed by them.

Try listening to the songs like Tumhi Dekho Na from the movie Kabhi Alvida na Kehna or Ya Rabba from the movie Salaam-E-Ishq or Tere Naina from the movie Chandni Chowk To China or the sad version of Kal Ho Naa Ho from the movie Kal Ho Naa Ho with your eyes closed.

It does not matter if you understand the words (I don’t even understand Hindi). It is a great de-stress option out there.

The above music video NOT from the original Hindi movie Kyun! Ho Gaya Na but they have used the original song. Unfortunately there is no clear & better video with this song – even from the original owner. This comes as the best so far.

It starts off with drops of rain sound, then the classical notes and slowly the violins joins in and a short pause before you heard Sadhana Sargam’s beautiful voice coming over. She seems to be playful before moving across the plains and then over the clouds.

The classical notes come back but this time with louder beats of the drums, she seems to be asking questions before rendering the smooth chorus. The piano notes then takes over, making the pace faster before a short pause for Udit Narayan’s powerful voice to take over, seems to be answer the question was posed earlier.

Simple tune but one that always keeps the listeners on the cloud – nicely done without any over bearing background music.

Tann mann mein kyun aise behti huyi thandi si ik aag hai
Saanson mein hai kaisi yeh raagini, dhadkan mein kya raag hai
Yeh hua kya humein humko samjhao na
Yeh hua kya humein humko samjhao na
Sab gaate hai, sab hi madhosh hai
Hum tum kyun khamosh hai
Dil mein joh baatein hai hothon pe laao na
Aao na, aao na, aao na, aao na

Ab koi doori na uljan koi, bas ek ikraar hai
Ab na kahin hum na tum ho kahin, bas pyar hi pyar hai
Sun sako dhadkane itne paas aao na
Sun sako dhadkane itne paas aao na
Sab gaate hai, sab hi madhosh hai
Hum tum kyun khamosh hai
Ab mere sapno pe tum hi tum chhaho na
Aao na, aao na, aao na, aao na

Goonji si hai sari fiza jaise bajti ho shehnaiyan
Leherati hai mehki hawa gungunati hai tanhaiyan
Sab gaate hai, sab hi madhosh hai
Hum tum kyun khamosh hai
Saaz-e-dil chhedo na, chup ho kyun gaaon na
Aao na, aao na, aao na, aao na

There are echoes of the flute playing in the air
The fragranced breeze is flowing and the silence is humming
Everyone is singing and intoxicated
Then why are we both silent
Play the tune of the heart and sing along
Please come, please come, please come, please come

Ga Ga Re Ga Ga Re Ga Re Ga Ma Ga Re
Ni Re Sa Ni Re Sa Ni Sa Ni
Ga Ga Ga Re Ga Ga Re Ga Ma Pa Ni
Dha Ni Dha Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Re Ma Ga
Ga Ga Re Ga Ga Re Ga Re Ga Ma Ga Re
Ni Re Sa Ni Re Sa Ni Sa Ni
Ga Ma Pa Ni Dha Ni Dha Ni Dha Ni
Dha Pa Pa Sa Sa Sa Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Re Ma Ga
(Indian Classical Notes)

Why is there a cold fire burning in my body and soul
What is this tune in my breaths and in my heartbeats
Explain to me what has happened to me
Explain to me what has happened to me
Everyone is singing and intoxicated
Then why are we both silent
Bring the words of your heart on your lips
Please come, please come, please come, please come

Now there’s no problem or distance, there’s just confession
Now we both are nowhere, there’s just love
Come so close to me that you can hear my heartbeats
Come so close to me that you can hear my heartbeats
Everyone is singing and intoxicated
Then why are we both silent
Now you spread yourself all around my dreams
Please come, please come, please come, please come

There are echoes of the flute playing in the air
The fragranced breeze is flowing and the silence is humming
Everyone is singing and intoxicated
Then why are we both silent
Play the tune of the heart and sing along
Please come, please come, please come, please come
