Twenty-two years later, Arul is invited to his cousin Bhuvaneshwari’s wedding in Needamangalam. He plans to attend the reception and leave immediately after.
During his journey, Arul visits his ancestral home, which makes him nostalgic. He decides to purchase their rented residence in Chennai and shares this idea with his wife, Hema. On his way to the wedding, he meets Jagadeesan, a former student of his father, who helps him reach the venue. At the wedding, Arul reunites with his relatives and learns about their lives. He becomes saddened by his cousin Latha’s troubled marriage and her regret about not marrying him.

Many people can relate to this, especially those who grew up in large families with lots of uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives. This indeed resembles the time when we meet up at my grandmother’s house for Deepavali celebrations.
Stellar Performances
The acting, particularly by Karthi and Arvind Swamy, is praised for its authenticity and depth and they have great chemistry despite the initial distance that Arvind’s character portrays with Karthi’s character. Their interaction at the garden and the dam whilst having their beer reminded me of the time me and my cousins gathered and had our beers.
Visuals and Music
The way the movie was filmed and the music that played were really nice. They made the story more interesting. The scenes in the city and the village were especially beautiful and well-captured.
Negative Points:
Slow Pacing
It has been reported that some viewers found the film’s pacing slow and meandering, particularly in the second half. I agree that some parts of the movie felt a bit slow, and some parts felt too short. However, I think the overall speed of the movie was okay. It wasn’t too fast or too slow for me to enjoy it.
Missed Plot
The ending and the reveal of the identity of the “relative” could have been done better. In the movie, the unknown relative is shown in the end as someone who happens to be close to Arul when he is young and grateful for the bicycle that he had left when the family left the village. Instead, it would have been rewarding if Meiyazhagan was revealed as the son of the relatives who had taken Arul’s ancestral house and wanted to amend the lost relationship by returning the house to Arul.
