In 2005, Paul Haggis’ movie screenplay titled “Million Dollar Baby” won an Oscar for Best Picture for 2004
Then in 2006, Paul Haggis’ movie screenplay titled “Crash” won an Oscar for Best Picture for 2005. The movie was also nominated for Best Director (Paul Haggis), Best Editing, Best Original Score, Best Screenplay (Paul Haggis & Robert Moresco) and Best Supporting Actor. In the end, it won 3 out of the 6 Oscar nominations.

Any movie would do – I and my wife did not have any preference since it has been some time since we last stepped into a cinema. We did not plan to see a particular movie. All Tamil movies in my perception then looked junk and a waste of time. That is until I watched Shankar’s Boys – it was refreshing and had a good storyline. Then over the years, good movies like Annayin (by Shankar), Vettaiyaadu Veilaiyaadu, Sivaji: The Boss (by Shankar) and more, proved me that not all new Tamil movies sucks.
There are indeed good movies out there, not perfect in all areas but still better than some fucked up movies that ran in the local cinemas and TV.
It is a fact that we cannot separate “crying scenes” from Tamil movies especially when you watch the old movies. but sometimes sadness can come in other forms as well especially when you have Kamal in the lead role.
I may have my “bad moments” with Tamil movies (and worse ones are the Tamil Serials) but I have to admit that some Tamil movies or some scenes are simply gems. I talked about comedies in Tamil movies and coming to the other spectrum of comedy, this has to be one of my favourite sad moments from Tamil movies has to be this:-
