The view from the hotel room simply shows how serene & calm Ipoh outside the city center can be. Quite a number of the houses are still based on single-storey designs with a huge surrounding space that can easily accommodate at least 5 cars and this used to be the style of houses we used to have in the Klang Valley in the 1980s.

Whilst Malaysia does have a very good and integrated public transportation system, there is something missing to connect the remote and far away suburbs with the main public transportation hubs in the country. The SHELL petrol station was actually the main landmark on the main old road between the city of Kuala Lumpur and the port town of Klang. We often refer to the petrol station when someone wants to come to our house in the old neighbourhood. It is directly on the opposite side of the neighbourhood. It was a big station those days but it has now somehow reduced in size. It is however still at the same place since the day we moved into this neighbourhood more than 40 years ago.
