One of the highlights of this 1977 Tamil movie, Kavikkuyil which starred Sivakumar, Sridevi and Rajinikanth is Ilaiyaraaja’s music. The movie was presented in black & white and all the songs in the movie were a great hit, especially the one sung by the late M. Balamuralikrishna (he passed away in 2016). If the world does know who is S. S. Rajamouli by now, seriously it is a shame on them as he was the brain behind 2015 Baahubali: The Beginning and 2017 Baahubali: The Conclusion where you have the above song sequence right in the opening and where the burning question why the lovable Kattappa killed Baahubali is finally answered. How to tell a great romance story without being too sexual or physical about it? Well, first time director S. U. Arun Kumar managed to pull out a great story of romance in his debut 2014 movie, Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum where the romance stories revolve around a car that the landlord played excellently by Jayaprakash had in his possession but don’t how to drive it. The 1985 Tamil movie, Muthal Mariyathai (which means the First Respect) was my late uncle’s favourite movie and he would be watching it at least once a day if he had time to watch the TV.
Well, it became one of my favourite Tamil movies as well. After all, in the hands of the great director, Bharathiraja and the acting prowess of the Nadigar Thilagam, Sivaji Ganesan, Muthal Mariyathai is indeed a great movie. Image source: The Hindu
