The one that caught my interest immediately, the song “Cinta dan Airmata” is a poignant track by the Malaysian rock band CRK, featured on their album “Airmata Cinta” released in 1992. The band, known for their emotive lyrics and powerful rock sound, only produced one album, with this song being a standout piece that resonates with themes of love and tears. The lead guitarist of CRK was previously a member of the renowned band Wings, contributing to the unique musical style of CRK.

Over the years, the lineup has seen changes, but the core members, including Awie and Eddie, have remained, contributing significantly to the band’s longevity and success.

Wings gained prominence with their debut album “Belenggu Irama” in 1987, produced by the legendary M. Nasir, which became the best-selling debut album by any Malaysian rock band at the time. Their music, characterized by hard rock and heavy metal influences, resonated with fans across the nation and helped establish the rock kapak genre in Malaysia.

The band’s journey has not been without challenges. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Malaysian government imposed restrictions on rock music, which affected Wings’ ability to perform and appear on television. Despite these obstacles, Wings persevered and continued to produce music that captivated their audience. 

Some of Wings’ most famous songs include “Misteri Mimpi Syakilla” and “Taman Rashidah Utama,” both of which are from their second album “Hukum Karma.” These songs not only achieved commercial success but also won the hearts of many fans, becoming timeless classics in the Malaysian music scene. The band celebrated their 30th anniversary with a historic concert at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by over 20,000 fans, demonstrating their enduring popularity and the strong connection they have with their audience.

The Alleycats is a renowned Malaysian pop band that originated from Penang, Malaysia. Formed in 1969, the band rose to fame in the late 1970s and has been a significant figure in the Malaysian music scene ever since. The original lineup consisted of David Arumugam (vocals), Loganathan Arumugam (vocals), Tan Chin Hock (drums), Shunmugam Arumugam (lead guitar), Chester Anthony Passerella (saxophone), Khoo Fook Sin (keyboard) & Frank Ong (bass guitar)

Their journey to stardom began with a performance contract at the Mocambo Club in Hong Kong in 1976, which was initially for three months but extended to three years due to their immense popularity. This exposure led to their discovery by major recording companies. The Alleycats’ first album, ‘Terima Kasih’ (Thank You), featured the hit single ‘Senandung Semalam’ (Yesterday’s Serenade), marking the beginning of their recording career with Polygram Records in 1978.

The band’s music, influenced by international artists like Air Supply, Phil Collins, and the Bee Gees, resonated with fans across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Despite the passing of one of the founding members, Loganathan Arumugam, in 2007, the band has continued to perform and record music. Over the years, they have released more than twenty recordings, contributing significantly to the development of the Malaysian music industry.

Some of their most famous songs that have left a lasting impact include ‘Sampaikan Salam Cintaku’, ‘Hingga Akhir Nanti’, ‘Kisah Kau Dan Aku’, and ‘Gerimis Senja’. These songs are celebrated for their melodious tunes and heartfelt lyrics, capturing the essence of Malaysian pop music.

“Masih Aku Terasa” is a poignant song by the Malaysian rock band Gersang. The composition is credited to Rahim Othman, while the evocative lyrics were penned by Azwie and Juwie and was one of the songs in Gersang’s first album produced in 1988. 


Gersang is a notable Malaysian rock band that originated from Johor Bahru, Johor. Established in 1981, the band distinguished itself from contemporaries like Search and Wings by embracing a progressive rock genre, which was considered innovative in the Malaysian music industry at the time.

The early formation of the band included Abdul Samad bin Mian (Samad), Najib Yaakub (Ajib), Man Sagap, Yem Popeye, and Razak Kerajaan. They achieved significant recognition after winning the Rock Festival Malaysia in 1986, which led to a contract offer from Rahim Othman. Although some members were unable to commit due to personal reasons, Kid and Man Bai, along with new members, moved to Kuala Lumpur to pursue their music career.

Over the years, Gersang has seen several lineup changes but has maintained a presence in the music scene. Some of their famous songs include “Suratan Takdir,” which they performed live in Juara Lagu ’88, and other hits like “Masih Aku Terasa,” “Sunyi,” and “Kehancuran,” which are remembered fondly by fans and remain influential in the genre.

“Suci Dalam Debu” is a renowned song by the Malaysian rock band Iklim. Released in June 1990, the song was composed by Wan Zul, and the lyrics were penned by S. Amin Shahab. It quickly became a hit and secured second place at the Juara Lagu competition in 1990.


Iklim is a renowned Malaysian rock band that originated from Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. The band, known for its distinctive blend of rock and slow rock genres, was officially formed in 1990. The band’s history is marked by its humble beginnings, where AM Salim Abdul Majeed, or Saleem-Iklim, gathered friends and young villagers in 1988 to form a singing group. Before they even had a name, Iklim performed at clubs and ceremonies around Terengganu.

Iklim gained widespread popularity in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, southern Thailand, and Cocos Islands in Australia during the 1990s. The group’s music continues to resonate on the radio to this day, a testament to their enduring appeal and the timeless quality of their songs. The band’s lineup has seen changes over the years, but their music legacy, particularly with the late Saleem Abdul Majid as the lead vocalist, remains influential.

Iklim’s debut single, “Suci Dalam Debu,” was a significant hit and contributed to the band’s early success, leading to the sale of over one million units in Indonesia alone.
