Lockdown in Malaysia 2021: Not A Big Surprise, MCO 2.0 Was Highly Expected

On 11th January 2021, the Prime Minister announced a stricter movement control order (MCO) for 6 states namely Wilayah and Selangor which encompasses ban on inter-state and inter-district. And a day after the MCO was announced and was due to take place, Malaysia recorded the highest number of COVID19 cases at 3,309 cases (on 14th, we set a new record with 3,337 new cases and 15 deaths). (The rather empty departure terminal at Phnom Penh airport in Cambodia and it is the same case, most airports around the world. Most of the duty-free shops were opened but sadly there were no customers. The lone guy at Starbucks was practically begging passengers to come in to have coffee) 

This will be the last part in this Cambodian trip series – we have completed our assignment in Phnom Penh and it was time to make the journey back home and start the next phase of the project.

The problem with foreigners in Cambodia during the time of a pandemic is that there is very little information available for them to know what is going on and what the next step will be. Often it is left to one’s own assumptions and “google” findings to know what to do next. What is given is some standard leaflet which does not clarify anything and there were no Cambodian officials were around to give any briefings on what to do next.
