Politics 101: Hulu Selangor By-Election Poser, A Reflection

PR Pakatan Rakyat Harapan Malaysia Hulu Selangor

This should be the final post on the Hulu Selangor by-elections. Please read Part 1 here and Part 2 here and Part 3 here and Part 4 here and Part 5 here.

Glad to be back in Malaysia from an overseas trip – nothing beats a roti canai banjir with a teh-o limau panas early in the morning!

When I was overseas, I managed to get the bad news from the internet – BN had won the Hulu Selangor seat by a small margin. Sometimes, we have no choice but to accept the decision of the voters and take the loss as a blessing in disguise.

Pakatan Rakyat was unfortunate to lose the Hulu Selangor seat. From the offset, things did not look too good for Zaid Ibrahim – the “easy to discredit” smear campaigns, the re-distribution of the electoral and the overwhelming use of the Barisan Nasional machinery in Hulu Selangor did not work in favour of the Pakatan Rakyat. Pakatan Rakyat also had its weakness out in the open well and that it did not go well even with Pakatan Rakyat supporters.

I say to Pakatan Rakyat that they may have lost a battle but we have yet to lose the war. As it has been said many, many times in Malaysia Today, it is not the time for Pakatan Rakyat to behave the same as Barisan Nasional. We do not expect Pakatan Rakyat to be dishing out benefits and making promises only during the by-elections. We want consistent performance from Pakatan Rakyat.

We need real change and we are pinning our hopes on Pakatan to deliver it with surgical precision. But before that could happen, they have to buckle up – starting with the elimination of internal traitors and potential slimy frogs (something that conveniently happened during the Hulu Selangor by-elections). Get the policies streamlined and also keep in toe against dirty politics. Work on real issues and stop wasting time politicising trivial issues.

Let’s get our acts polished up before the Sibu by-elections and before the next general elections.

  1. Too many internal traitors looking for a quick buck and too many old man dying too soon.Pakatan has to think carefully next time to choose the right representative rather than having by-elections every time which is too costly.
