Snippets – 14 May 2010

Damn!

Some called the shooting of a boy who stole a car, involved in a hit and run and failed to stop when ordered by the police as tragedy. In real sense, this is more tragic:-

A 10-year-old schoolgirl died after she is believed to have accidentally hanged herself at home while re-enacting a movie suicide scene.

Wash vs Rinse

(Frankly speaking, I rather opt for a power wash. Image source: http://jennifermccolm.com)

Wash

1.
a. To cleanse, using water or other liquid, usually with soap, detergent, or bleach, by immersing, dipping, rubbing, or scrubbing: wash one’s hands; wash windows.
b. To soak, rinse out, and remove (dirt or stain) with or as if with water: wash grease out of overalls.

Trip to Amazing Chennai 2010: Part 2 – Settling Down

chennai dabarah coffee trip

(The way to start the day – Chennai style – light filter coffee with thick cow milk in a small tumbler. The small plate at the bottom is known as ‘dabarah’ which is supposed to be used to cool down the hot coffee but Malaysians like us, we just blow on the top of the cup and drank the milk rich coffee)

Aminulrasyid’s Death

In the meantime, Blogger Kickdefella has donated some cash to the family of the policeman now being charged for the death of the young boy.… [Click to read the rest] “Aminulrasyid’s Death”

Theme Headache

Regular visitors to this blog must be wondering on the question – why the theme of the blog keeps changing?

To tell you the truth, I am rather unsettled with the existing templates from WordPress (either that or I am lost for blog content) – there are good ones there but somehow there are always some kind shortcomings in those themes.… [Click to read the rest] “Theme Headache”

Syiok Sendiri

(This revelation that the Government used public money to waste on an almost RM1 million advertisement had me and many others fuming with anger)

Syiok sendiri (or a variant of it) means self induced happiness or self induced glorification.

It is apparent that nothing is left unturned to make one spouse of a politician to have a bigger head (and status) than of the real First Lady of Malaysia.… [Click to read the rest] “Syiok Sendiri”

Representing Majority

A letter by one Dato’ Vyran T Raj in Malaysia Today woke me this morning:-

The government’s decision to appoint Dato’ G. Palanivel as a senator to bring him back into mainstream politics of the Barisan Nasional fold received an overwhelming approval by the Malaysian Indian community

The words that woke me up were this – “overwhelming approval”.… [Click to read the rest] “Representing Majority”

chennai airport trip

(Our transport from Chennai International Airport to the apartment – it was large enough to hold 8 people and 6 large luggage. The photo was taken on a camera phone hence the poor quality)
