Economy 101: To Improve the Malaysian Economy: Stop Pissing Others Off

malaysia

The problem with we Malaysian as I have seen over the years irrespective the country is under Barisan or Pakatan ruling is that we all practice double standards. Image source: Reddit

For example, we want other countries to send back the wanted Malaysian 1MDB fugitive known as Jho Low to face the prosecutions in Malaysian courts but we keep an Indian fugitive from deportation to face the prosecutions in Indian courts. We say the world can expect a fair trial in Malaysia (we even guarantee it) but we are quick to cast doubts and condemn other country’s justice system.

My Top 3 Epic Motorcycle Rides Watched on Youtube

motorcycle

I rode a motorcycle for almost 15 years before changing my daily commute from a bike to a car for 2 reasons – firstly I got married, so it was not safe when I had to bring my wife as a pillion rider on long distance and secondly my new workplace was nearer and thus there was less traffic jam compared my original journey all the way to KL city centre. So it makes sense to drive car then. I miss biking so I still watch other rides if possible and the one that started it all was the Long Way Round – image source: Amazon.

An Insane Travel Idea: One Day Trip to Tarrafal Part 2

The journey continues to Tarrafal after Part 1 here

tarrafal

From afar, we could see and even smell the sea and some of the guys started to get excited, probably because it was a welcomed change from the earlier dry, hilly route. Tarrafal was indeed a small town next to the sea but seems cleaner and more organised compared to Praia. The houses and commercial areas mostly two and three stories high were well organised and clean.

Seriously the Government and private enterprises need to do more to promote their beautiful beaches here. If this is in Malaysia, the plan would have been overrun by local and foreign tourists on the weekends. Just take a look at Port Dickson which is about 100 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur – there are already plenty of hotels, service apartments and houses for rent and the town continues to be developed for tourism.

Blogging 101: 5 Fascinating Mistakes Discovered With Self Hosted WordPress

wordpress

I have been blogging on WordPress.com site since 2007 (earlier since 2005 in Blogger.com) and since it is a free site where certain things cannot be done or limited (like installing plugins, monetization of the site, etc), all I had to worry about back then was ensuring that I had good content for the blog post. Image source: WordPress.org.

Seriously back then terminologies like SEO, AMP, Fast Website Loading, Caching, Backups, etc was basically sounded alien to me. Well not true exactly, I had some idea on some of the concepts as I have seen the same at my workplace but it was clear that using the free WordPress.com site, there was nothing much I could play around on this.

An Insane Travel Idea: One Day Trip to Tarrafal Part 1

Tarrafal

The seaside town of Tarrafal lies on the other side of the island, about 70 kilometres from opposite side of Praia. It is not far but considering the condition of the road, it is expected to take us more than 2 hours to reach it. So when someone suggested for one day trip to the other side of island for a swim, at first it sounded insane but then it was clear that it was the break that everyone was waiting for. Image source: Google Map

When we are on work assignment overseas, we will rarely have time for sight seeing – after all, we are expected to work on weekends and till late night. In Cape Verde, things were a bit different – since the users are not available on the weekends, there are days when we are unable to work on weekends. So left to hole up in the hotel room, the team had a choice of either rest in the room or go for a walk and explore the town.

Governance 101: Where 15 Pledges for Better Citizens Headed in Next 3 Years?

better citizen

Back in May 2018, something historical happened – BN who held power for past 61 years lost the general elections – the story detailed in Part 1 & Part 2. And with that, the old Malaysia died and a “New Malaysia” or in Bahasa, “Malaysia Baru” was born. Image source: Wikipedia

However since then, the New Malaysia like a newborn baby have been struggling to stand up, been making too many silly mistakes, edging dangerously on race & religion related matters and yet to show any positive results.

On a daily basis, there is no lack of news of power tussles, accusations that one political party is leading another, race & religion is under threat and the proposed succession plan not materialising. The political landscape is indeed in a mess but we will come to the main actors, i.e. the politicians and the so-called NGOs later.

Indian Cinema 101: When the Hero Actually Kills the Villain!

hero kill

When was the last time you saw one of the most famous Tamil movie hero MGR actually killed a villain in a movie? The harshest response from MGR that I can recall is whipping back his “Uncle” Nambiar in the movie, Enga Veettu Pillai. Image source: Google.

Back in the 1950s, all the way to the 1990s, the Tamil movie heroes are literally worshipped as being good, kind, and helpful and will never hurt anyone. Often coming from a poor or working class, they are treated to be “one of us” – one would understand the struggles & challenges of the common man.

Delicious Food in Cape Verde – Part 4 (Dinner)

Read these first:-

When in Cape Verde, I rarely take my dinner mainly because it will be too late at night to order something from the hotel kitchen (I don’t want them to scrap the leftovers). Further I would be very sleepy by the time I reach the hotel room so it has been easy for me to take the shower and hit the bed than walk down to the hotel restaurant.

But nonetheless, there are times when I would be very hungry and it just happens that we are back from office early, so instead of having something light in the hotel room (namely instant noodles or biscuits). Maggi instant noodles far away from home and at cold nights is simply heaven sent – any Malaysians will confirm that.
