Tamil Movie Review: Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe 2019

movie Thiagarajan Kumararaja

Many thanks to Behindwood’s list of top 150 cult Tamil movies to watch consolidated due to the lockdown in India, I found a real gem in these 2 – Aaranya Kaandam (2010) and (2019). Both written and directed by the brilliant . Image source: The Hindu

When it comes to watching a movie, I would also check on who is the director of the movie.

Personally, I have some preferences as I know that their movies have been brilliant (maybe 1-2 screw-ups like Myskkin’s Physco) – directors like David Lean (his 1962 Lawrence of Arabia is still my top epic movie in my collections), Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan for Hollywood movies and K Balachander, Mani Ratnam, Myskkin, Cheran and to some extent, Selvaraghavan & Vetrimaaran for .

Tamil Movie Review: Rajavukku Check 2020, Thriller Gripping Storyline

tamil movie

Rajavukku Check means Check Mate in Tamil and I managed to catch up watching this action thriller Tamil movie starring Cheran recently. WARNING ahead – this is not a movie to watch with the whole family. Movie poster source: IndiaGlitz

The lock down has unfortunately confined us to our homes with little things to do unless you are very creative and make the best of the lock down.… [Click to read the rest] “Tamil Movie Review: Rajavukku Check 2020, Thriller Gripping Storyline”

Tamil Movie Review: 1987 Nayakan’s Haunting Saranya Theme

nayakan

I dare say that this is probably one of the most iconic image of Naicker & Neela from 1987 Tamil movie (aka Nayagan). Kamal’s facial expression tells a million things happening in his mind with Neela looking back at him innocently – Image source: www.medium.com.

Movie Review 101: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 2019

star wars

Probably no thanks to the bad (or not), we had been setting aside the urge to watch this third instalment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy which incidentally also is the final episode of the nine-part “Skywalker saga” as soon as it comes to the cinemas. Poster source: www.starwars.com.

Tamil Movie Review: Kaithi – Probably the Best Tamil Movie of 2019

kaithi

(Kaithi is one of the best Tamil action for 2019 with a very solid storyline, background and acting. Image source: IMDB)

It is not often I am ready to spend money to watch in the cinema and it is for obvious reasons – loose & illogical storyline, some of dumbest heroines and out of place song sequences. It is very rare to see a really good Tamil movie these days.

Some of the Tamil movies that I have tolerated and paid to watch it in the local cinemas remain rare and few – Bahubali: The Conclusion (this is because we were dying to know why Kattappa backstabbed Bahubali) and Petta (this is because it was directed by the brilliant Karthik Subbaraj) was good to watch.

Indian Cinema 101: When the Hero Actually Kills the Villain!

hero kill

When was the last time you saw one of the most famous Tamil movie hero MGR actually killed a in a movie? The harshest response from that I can recall is whipping back his “Uncle” Nambiar in the movie, Enga Veettu Pillai. Image source: Google.

Back in the 1950s, all the way to the 1990s, the Tamil movie heroes are literally worshipped as being good, kind, and helpful and will never hurt anyone. Often coming from a poor or working class, they are treated to be “one of us” – one would understand the struggles & challenges of the common man.

IT 2017 – Disheartened Scenes

Read These First:-

IT

(If you have read the IT, the novel, the clown known as Pennywise The Dancing Clown is actually an alien – a shape shifting monster ended up on prehistoric Earth during an asteroid impact and made its home under the land and would sleep for approximately 27 to 30 years at a time, using its time awake to wreak chaos and feed on human fear. IT came out in 2017…

Had anyone watched the evil clown movie called IT?

This horror movie came out in 2017 – I had wanted to watch it in theater back then but I did not have any chance and over time I had forgotten about it. Then last week, I managed to catch this movie and I now know why people got scared of clowns (more sighting happened in US before this movie came out). Seeing a clown with a red balloon standing in front of you did would have sent a shiver down anyone’s spine. It is worst if you (like me) prefer watching this movie late at night, expecting the unexpected.
