Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu was a 1978 Tamil movie written and directed by C. V. Sridhar and stars Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Sripriya and Jayachitra.
This movie has one of the best soundtracks with all of the songs that were big hits for decades. The song “Ennadi Meenakshi” used to be a must song played at every wedding functions.

Ilaiyaraaja composed this song with the lyrics were written by Vaali and sung by the late S. P. Balasubramaniam. The picturisation of the song is surprisingly well made with Kamal Haasan on the stage playing the role of the hero found been cheated by the heroin.
The lyrics of the song hit the specific feeling that he is having as he sees his heroin with his friend Rajinikanth – her words yesterday have now gone empty with the wind.
Illayaraaja uses very modern instruments namely trumpets, guitar and drums to keep the fast but angry pace of the song. The mood of the song is further amplified by Kamal Haasan’s dances and expressions on the stage.

Interestingly there is a remix/rock version of this classic Tamil song on Youtube which demonstrates how Maestro Illayaraaja’s old timeless songs can continue to evolve and remains trendy to even this day.
Love this song ! It hurts so much to read “late” prefixed to SPB. Yet to come to terms with his loss. Today is 5 months since he left. 🙁
