Typically, squatters do not hold a title, pay rent, or have permission from the rightful owner to use the property. Squatters can sometimes be seen in a positive light, as they may bring unused land or property back into productive use, but they can also be viewed negatively, especially if their occupation interferes with the property rights of others.
