Delicious Food in Cape Verde – Part 2 (Lunch)

Read Part 1 () here

Lunch

( is blessed with abundance of sea food especially for which we can get in a bigger chunks here compared to in Malaysia. The vegetables however is nothing to shout about – we can get better vegetables here in Malaysia)

One of the key SOP when we are working at customer’s site is that firstly we minimize time taken for lunch and secondly we break into 2 teams so that there is always someone around during lunch time.

To ensure we go for lunch fast and back, we decided that it needs to be somewhere nearby (which meant within walking distance), clean (no point having team members on sick leave), a good selection of food (it should not be boring) and if possible, the staff need to know some level of English.

For lunch, after surveying around & talking to the locals, we basically short listed 3 options (actually there were 4 but last one was not viable as we need transportation to the restaurant and need to be there early, otherwise the food would be sold out).

National Security 2019: Treat Water Pollution as Terrorist Attack!!

pollution

& to consumers is not new – the above was back in October 2016 when it was discovered that a toxic solvent had been dumped into a tributary of a river that flows into the Sungai plant. Earlier this month, the plant was shut down due to “odor pollution”.

On Sept 23, it was closed due to from Sungai Lalang near the Semenyih Hitech area, and a day earlier, it was shut down due to contamination believed to be from an illegal factory along Jalan Sungai Lalang. Image source: The Star

Considering how water pollution is causing hardship to the consumers in this country and the level of punishment is not enough to stop pollution from recurring (and causing water supply disruptions), we need to treat all these polluters as terrorists and water pollution in particular as a determined terrorist attack.

IT 2017 – Disheartened Scenes

Read These First:-

IT

(If you have read the IT, the novel, the clown known as Pennywise The Dancing Clown is actually an alien – a shape shifting monster ended up on prehistoric Earth during an asteroid impact and made its home under the land and would sleep for approximately 27 to 30 years at a time, using its time awake to wreak chaos and feed on fear. Image Source: Amazon / Wikipedia)

IT came out in 2017…

Had anyone watched the evil clown movie called IT?

This horror movie came out in 2017 – I had wanted to watch it in theater back then but I did not have any chance and over time I had forgotten about it. Then last week, I managed to catch this movie and I now know why people got scared of clowns (more sighting happened in US before this movie came out). Seeing a clown with a red balloon standing in front of you did would have sent a shiver down anyone’s spine. It is worst if you (like me) prefer watching this movie late at night, expecting the unexpected.

Delicious Food in Cape Verde (Breakfast) – Part 1

Starting off the next part of the to series – I am starting off random posts on food and let’s start off with as that was the first meal we had the next day after we had checked in the hotel.

Food

As earlier mentioned, the dining area of the hotel was rather small – probably 6 small tables that could accommodate 15 – 18 people (sometimes even less). The tables for the food and drinks also took space in the dining area.

Religion 101: David Wood Failing Down Zakir Naik’s Points

Continuing from this post, this came out 3 years ago back in 2016 by (interestingly is the point 3 in his video):-

From Wikipedia:-

David Wood is American evangelical missionary. Wood has participated in numerous public debates with Muslims and atheists, usually in a public hall or in front of a university audience including debates with Sunni Muslim apologist Shabir Ally.

Driving Skills 101: Driving on the Wrong Side of Road

Wrong Side of the Road

(Another car on the wrong side of the road – this was from 2017 where a 21-year-old man was killed when a BMW, travelling against the traffic, rammed into his Perodua MyVi at Jalan Tun Razak near the National Library. Photo source: NST)

There was a time when I drive to work; there is a road that leads from the office to the main road leading into the Federal Highway. This is a known choke point and pretty much crawling at peak hours. So once the right side of the lane jammed up, impatient drivers will then start driving on the wrong side of the road to bypass the traffic and make illegal entry to the main road, compounding the traffic jam at this point. I lost count of the times when I will turn into this slip road only to face off with drivers driving on the wrong side of the road.

Religion 101: Sadhguru and Zakir Naik Compared

Sadhguru – “We don’t need more Hindus, more Christians, or more Muslims – we need more Buddhas, more Jesuses, and more Krishnas – then there will be true change. Every being has that inner potential”

Sadhguru

(All the characteristics of a and more – has it all but he is also practical and a man who uses science as means to the end. He explains the basic of science & the impact clearer to a layman than in a science book – Image Source: Quora)

I have been following up with the teaching & speeches of Sadhguru in the past few years, not because he talks about Hinduism alone – most of the times he doesn’t even mention Hinduism – but rather he is one of the first Hindu Yogi who spoke more sense and does not shy away from the real issues that confront the world today – economy disparity, the abuse of power and worsening of the and the impact on humans.

Yes at the same time, he infuses the teachings and way of life as a Hindu in his talks but it is done very implicitly in forms of the laws of the universe, yoga, dharma and morality.

Trip to Cape Verde 2019: Part 5 – Miserable But Comfortable Hotel

Santa Maria Cape Verde Hotel Praia

(The front entrance of the hotel in Praia, – Image Source: Amoma)

We had a scheduled 69 days stay in Cape Verde for project implementation, so it was crucial that we nailed the accommodations right from the start.

It’s crucial because as in the past projects, we can expect stressful & long working hours – so we will always be looking forward towards to a cosy warm bed, a clean room and a minimum room service. Usually, for long term working days, we will arrange for an apartment so that we have a common room & kitchen but renting a house or apartment for a short period in Cape Verde was not feasible. Further of the expected long working hours, it will be tiring if we expect to come back & clean up the apartment as well.
